Information about Toledo Festivals
As the religious capital of Spain, most of Toledo's festivals are religious in nature and they take place during major Catholic holidays.Some of the main festivals in the city are:
- Holy Week (Semana Santa) takes place during Easter and is a major holiday throughout Spain, featuring extravagant processions through the streets.
- Corpus Christi occurs on the ninth Thursday after Easter and is a major event. The Custodia de Arfe, the silver and gilt monstrance that is housed at the Cathedral of Toledo, is carried around the city on this holiday.
- Feast of the Assumption (La Asunción) is held on the 15th of August each year and draws large crowds of worshippers who form large queues to drink the 'Miracle Water' from the cathedral's well.
- The Saffron Rose Festival is held every October at the nearby town of Consuegera.
