Tampa is known for having small locally held events celebrating different parts of the city rather than large-scale tourist-driven festivals.However, there are some major festivals held in Tampa every year that draw hordes of both tourists and locals alike. Here are some of the most significant events in Tampa:
- The Gasparilla Pirate Festival in late January is the city's best-known and most well-loved celebration held every year for nearly a century and featuring a parade led by a fully decked out pirate ship.
- The Florida State Festival lasts two weeks beginning in mid-February and is southeast Florida's largest fair, including shows, rides and displays on local agriculture and arts and crafts.
- Aeronautic prowess is on display in early April when the MacDill Air Force Base hosts one of the country's largest airshows, the MacDill Airfest.
