Information about Rome Festivals
A large number of events and festivals are held throughout the year in Rome. The Vatican City is the centre of the Roman Catholic Church and religious festivals often attract large crowds.Among the highlights are:
- Rome Marathon, held in late March, when participants run past many of the most famous landmarks in the city, cheered on by crowds of spectators.
- Easter, when the Pope leads the Procession of the Cross on Good Friday and mass is held in St Peter's Square on Easter Sunday.
- Concerts held throughout May, when the Accademia Filarmonica Romana plays at the Teatro Olimpico.
- Pesaro Film Festival, in late June, also known as the International Exhibition of New Cinema.
- Noianti Festival, held in July, featuring dancing, folk music and fireworks in honour of the Virgin Carmine.
- Festa della Madonna della Neve is a religious festival held each August.
