Oxford maintains a busy events calendar with many exciting events held in and around the city.Because of the city's large student population, many of the year's events are centred on the university's colourful ceremonies, while highlights are the university's major sporting events. Some of the most notable annual events include:
- Cowley Road Carnival, held in mid-June with parades and musical stages.
- Oxford Round Table Fireworks Display in late October is a spectacular fireworks display.
- Henley Royal Regatta, the most prestigious rowing event in the UK, held in late June or early July.
- Oxford versus Cambridge University Boat Race, held in late March.
- May Day, the 1st of May sees Magdalen College choir sing madrigals from the 15th-century bell-tower, while Morris dancers welcome spring with performances in the city centre.
