Information about Milan Festivals
A large number of events and festivals are held throughout the year at Milan.These include sporting, artistic and cultural events as well as religious festivals. Among the highlights are:
- The Carnavale Ambrosiano, the world's longest carnival, with many floats and fun-seekers taking part in the procession. The carnival finishes on the first Saturday of Lent.
- The MODIT-Milanovendemoda fashion shows, featuring some of the industry's top designers, the shows are held in Milan in early March and early October.
- The Stramilano is a marathon open to amateurs and professional runners which attracts around 50,000 competitors each year.
- Milan Bluegrass Festival is held in August at the KC Campground and attracts some of the world's best bluegrass musicians.
- The Italian Grand Prix is held in September at the Autodromo Nazionale in Monza, about 10 miles from Milan.
- The Festa di Sant'Ambrogio in December is a holiday celebrating Milan's patron saint, Sant'Ambrogio. The opening night of the opera season at the Teatro alla Scala opera house takes place on the same day.
