Madrileños know how to party and the action-packed events calendar reflects the spirit of the city and its people. There are numerous festivals and events spread liberally throughout the year covering a whole range of themes from religious festivals, street parties and carnivals to feasts, antique fairs and fashion shows.Up-to-date listings are regularly published; keep an eye out for magazines that feature upcoming events. Some of the notable annual events include:
- Carnival, which is held the week before Lent and involves parties, parades and local customs.
- Madrid Day is held on the 2nd of May and commemorates the 1808 rebellion against Napoleon.
- Música en las Ventas is held from September to October and both international and national modern music performances are showcased at Madrid's bullring.
- Autumn Festival (Festival de Otoño) is held from September to November and is an impressive performing arts event.
- International Jazz festival in November.
