The city offers plenty of music festivals, family entertainment events and celebrations of the many ethnic minorities that have claimed Las Vegas as their home.Some of the major highlights include:
- Cinco de Mayo in May, commemorating the Mexican victory over the French.
- The Sundown Bluegrass Concerts is a celebration of the best bluegrass music in the region, hosted at Jaycee Park in August.
- The Police Olympics are held in August and feature teams from all over the world.
- The Las Vegas Cup Hydroplane Race in September is a two-day affair on Lake Mead, featuring the fastest boats on the planet.
- The Las Vegas Balloon Classic held at Sam Boyd Stadium in October is a hot air balloon racing competition that features a hundred beautifully designed hot air balloons competing.
- December sees the final showdown of the National Rodeo. An elite 15 riders perform at the Thomas Mack Sports Center.
