Despite being a small island, the Isle of Wight shares all the same celebrations as the mainland, as well as some unique celebrations and festivities.Some of the island's most notable events are:
- One of the most well-known events on the island is Cowes Week. Dating back to 1826, this is one of the world's premier sailing regattas, which has grown to include more than 1,000 yachts that compete in the eight-day event.
- The Nokia Isle of Wight Festival is a popular music event held in early June at Seaclose Park, Newport. Now celebrating its fifth year, the event attempts to resurrect the famous concerts held on the island in the past.
- The Isle of Wight Walking Festival is a popular event that includes family fun walks. The event brings together walkers from all nationalities and has a regular attendance of more than 15,000 people.
- The Isle of Wight Jazz Festival is gaining in popularity every year. The festival focuses on young musicians and women in jazz, with all jazz styles being represented. The Victorian town of Ventnor hosts the event.
- Held in late October at Sandown Bay, the White Air Extreme Sports Festival is the largest event of its kind in the UK. Features of the festival include windsurfing, surfing and kite-surfing competitions. Nightly beach parties take place after the events have finished for the day.
