Information about Houston Festivals
A large number of popular events and festivals are held in Houston throughout the year. They include sporting events, religious celebrations and artistic, cultural and historical festivals.Among the highlights are:
- The huge Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, held for three weeks in late February/early March and featuring popular country singers. This event attracts large numbers of people.
- Houston International Festival, a popular celebration of music, art and food, held during the third week of April.
- The Cinco de Mayo Celebration is held on May 5. This is when the city's Mexican population celebrates their historic victory over the French. The celebrations include a parade, music and dancing.
- The Juneteenth Celebration on June 19 is a festival celebrating the day in 1865 when Texan slaves were given their freedom.
- Houston International Jazz Festival, held in early August, features performances by top jazz musicians.
- The Wings over Houston Air Show, held annually in early October, features displays and other activities for visitors to enjoy.
- Texas Championship American Pow Wow, in mid-November, a two-day festival celebrating Native American culture featuring traditional singing and dancing.
