Information about Boston Festivals
The historical importance of the city comes to light through a number of celebrations and re-enactments.Being a major US city, many of the public holidays are also celebrated in a truly memorable way, with some of the most memorable being:
- New Year's Day; check out the group of elderly women known as the L-Street Brownies taking their annual dip in the freezing waters of South Boston.
- February hosts the annual celebration known as Black History Month at the Museum of Afro-American History.
- The St Patrick's Day Parade in March is a big festival. It also marks Evacuation Day, when British troops withdrew from the area in 1776.
- Patriot's Day in April is a re-enactment of Paul Revere's historic journey.
- Boston Pops Concert is held in July and is a great music festival with amazing firework displays.
- Civil War battle re-enactments take place around the 18th July and provide a fascinating insight into this period.
- The Cambridge River Festival is hosted along the Charles River in mid-September.
- Mid-December sees a re-enactment of the Boston Tea Party, hosted at the Boston Tea Party Ship and Museum.
