Information about Baltimore Festivals
Known for its busy calendar of events and festivities, residents of Baltimore know how to have a good party and visitors are always welcome to join in.Some of the most notable events of the year include:
- The Baltimore Blues Festival takes place at Paterson Park in May. Blues musicians perform live concerts while enthusiastic collectors and sellers trade instruments and rare recordings.
- One of the strangest events in Baltimore is the Preakness Crab Derby, held in May. Races involving crabs owned by well-known local personalities are cheered on by a great many spectators, all in the name of charity.
- A popular event on the Baltimore calendar in July is Artscape at Mount Royal avenue. Held outside on three stages, performances in all the art disciplines can be seen at this event.
- The Taste of Baltimore festival takes place at the pavilion in Oriole Park in early October. As the name suggests, this is a food festival that involves more than 70 local restaurants providing samples of the types of dishes they are known for.
- The symbolic Washington Monument Lighting Ceremony takes place in early December to mark the start of the holiday season. Choir performances, a huge firework display and free drinks are some of the attractions.
